Re-Loaders and Presses
A Comprehensive Review! In 1958, Richard Lee started the Lee re-loading business in his
home workshop.
He invented the first Lee re-loader for shotguns which gained high popularity during its time.
In the early 60's, he invented loaders for pistols and rifles ammunitions and thus, Richard brought
over 1 and a half million shooters to re-loading!

In the 70's, Lee Precision invented the first aluminium bullet moulds were created with sizes and
melters. These new bullet moulds were so accurate and precise that the bullets cast on them did not
require any further sizing. These were the most accurate and easy to cast moulds ever before created. The Lee
Load-All for shotgun shells was the next popular invention of the mid-decade.
With the progressing time, the Lee Precision also gained popularity. People upgraded their Lee dies and presses
when the news ones were launched and the other brands were easily bulldozed by the features offered by Lee
products. During this time, the one used for fun and speed re-loading was the Lee Turret Press and among the
progressive presses the most popular was the Lee Pro 1000.
Lee Precision, now provides for all types of re-loading kits of all budgets to cater every user.
THE LEE RE-LOADER PRESS:
The C-shaped re-loader press is a single stage re-loading press that can accommodate industry standard 7/8
inches x 14 inch thread pitch dies. The reloader has got an aluminium body and the machine is really simple to use.
There are few pre-requisites for this re-loader like the shell holder, re-loading dies, the obligatory powders,
primers, etc.
COMPARISON:
The C-shaped aluminium body although provides great clearance for higher accuracy but the problem with it is
that the ram's leverage is too powerful for the body and thus, bends the aluminium. The Lee Re-loader if compared
to the almost equally priced Lee Hand Press, it is seen that the Lee Hand Press is a better option. The advantage
of the hand press is that its location of the die produces the maximum leverage of the ram as also the overall
power of the unit. The body of the hand press also does not bend like in the re-loader.
DRAWBACKS:
Previously when I used to use the Lee Re-loader, I had to get it changed 4 times and the 5th time I ordered for
the Lee Hand Press in exchange. The re-loader broke at four different places due to which I had to get it changed.
The first bent was near the die's mouth, the second one was at the ram stop, the third one at the bench mounting
and the last one made the pivots of the handle or the ram oval.
For these reasons, the Lee Re-loader is only a good option for the straight-walled handgun brass.
COMPARISON WITH OTHER PRODUCTS:
The single press if compared to its competitors from other brands, does not stand much of a chance if compared.
Frankly, most of the other single presses are better than the Lee Re-loader. The Lee Hand Press does a far better
job than the C-shaped re-loader. If carefully compared, most other Lee turret presses and single stage units will
perform better!
Again, if compared to the RCBS and other brands then it will be clearly seen again that they outperform the
re-loader. These presses of the different brands are comparable with the Lee Challenger Press which actually a good
unit. The Challenger Press gives a comparable increase in performance and reliability than the Lee Re-loader.

CONCLUSION:
All the products mentioned above have their own advantages and disadvantages so they are all better in their own
ways. But if you want a good press at a low cost then you can obviously go for the Lee Hand Press or maybe with a
few more dollars you can get yourself the Lee Challenger Press and if quality and performance is all what matters
to you then you can blindly pick the cast iron press from Lee Precision that is the Lee Cast Press.
